The site for LAMA has not yet been decided. It will, however, be located at one of the world's premier astronomical sites. One possibility is Cerro Chajnantor in Northern Chile, the site of the ALMA millimeter telescope. At an altitude of 5000 meters, this may be the best site in the world. Other locations in Chile are also being investigated. Another possibility is a location in the Sacremento Mountains of New Mexico, near the National Solar Observatory. At an altitude of 2800 m, this is one of the best astronomical sites in North America, and has a very well-developed infrastructure. Site testing has begun in New Mexico and will be extended to other potential sites.
